Okay, well, this really has nothing to do with anyone getting married, but I do have an anniversary-related thing to celebrate–
This little blog is one year old as of today!
It’s my blogiversary!
Boy, it sure doesn’t seem like a year, but now that I look back on the posts from those first few months, I feel like both my crafting and especially my photography skills have come so far.
Here’s to more blogiversaries to come!
I don’t really have much knitting to show you purely because of the combination of not having much time to knit, and not being able to figure out what I WANT to knit right now.
So, I thought I’d show you something I mentioned awhile back (in November) but never actually posted pictures of.

The stats:
Pattern- improvised, sized to fit my extremely well-loved iPod mini
Yarn- The Knittery Merino Cashmere Sock, with small bits of Louet Gems Fingering in Lilac and Cream for embroidery
Needles- Brittany Birch US 1 (2.25 mm) double points
I made this after searching everywhere I could think of to find a suitable cover for my “obsolete” iPod, which I saved up for for months 3 years ago, only to find out a few weeks after I got it that Apple had opted to stop making them (and all accessories for the mini) to make way for the then-new nano. This little blue machine has been a very good friend to me, even through various occasions of slipping out of my hand while walking and getting scratched up on the sidewalk. It is, however, starting to die a slow and sad death, and I’m afraid I may have to start saving for a new one soon.
The things I love most about this iPod cozy are the sweet little details, like a picot hem at the top, a pretty, engraved button, and the love-music embroidery motif on the back (the music note was done in duplicate stitch, and the heart was done in chain stitch). I also made it completely seamless, knit from the top down ending with a 4-stitch saddle style gusset at the bottom, and an i-cord loop that was picked up and then grafted at the top of the back.
Something else that has inspired me recently-
I found this sweater pattern advertised in the newest Knit Picks catalog

Which goes by the same name (the Innovation Mockneck pullover) and looks suspiciously like this sweater from Anthropologie’s winter collection

I, of course, would never be able to buy anything from Anthropologie, but they’re always a great source of inspiration, and it looks like someone from Knit Picks must have made a deal with the Anthropologie people, and now us knitters reap the benefits. I would have to purchase the pattern, but it would be great to use as a starting point (I like the original version better) to modify.

Happy Blogiversary!

Happy blogiversary :) And the original design is so much better, they seem to have simplified it and lost the whole point along the way. I know Anthropologie are aware of the demand for patterns for their knitwear.

I found the KnitPicks version to be very “There is an arrow pointing at my crotch!!!” and that totally distracted me from the cool neckline…

Happy Blogiversary, and very cute ipod cover. I’ve got a mini too. Remember how sleek they used to look? I still like mine too. I love K’picks, but I think their version puts the shaping too low on the body. It loses the peplum look, and gains instead “Hi, meet me hips.” Can’t wait to see what you make of it!

I like the original version better, too. It looks like they used a heavier yarn (Shine Worsted?) in the Knit Picks version, and it really weighs down those pleats. I love Anthropologie!

Happy one-year! I love the iPod cover. Cute idea with the button. It looks so elegant!

I’ve got to agree with Kerri - that’s the first thing I noticed (snort, snort). Definitely modify it to achieve that more “peplum” look from the Anthropologie pattern.
And…… Happy Blogiversary! I really enjoy your postings, and I’ve got to tell you, for one so young you are an incredible inspiration to me, who has come to the knitting craft world as an, ahem, more mature adult. :-)
best,

The fasten on your i-pod cover is really sweet!
Hum, those two sweater really are the same. I have to agree, the original looks better. It’s a bit more form fitting, for one thing, and I like the quarter sleeves, too.
Happy blogiversary!

Hiya! Oh…please don’t post this, it is just a question about “My So-Called Scarf”. I am new to knitting, but I love my Malabrigo and I need to stop making hats, so I thought a new pattern would provide a new challenge. That and the name pays homage to my most favorite TV show of all time, which was on when I was a frosh in HS! Yikes!
Okay, so…being craft challenged, the pattern of course is giving me kittens. Did you really use US11 needles? I tried and the tension didnt’ seem quite right. Also, which type of needle, bamboo or aluminum? I’ve tried both and haven’t had the best of luck with either. My knitting group just chuckles at me, since I keep trying over and over again with different needles and yarn. :) Of course, it has to be a simple two row repeat pattern that is crushing me. I have been listening to the Go! Team’s “We Just Won’t Be Defeated” in order to motivate me to finish the scarf before winter has finally left NY!
Really though, I should not be left to my own devices and need a little advice on how the heck you made you scarf look so fantastic!!
Thanks!
Steph

steph:
I used #10 1/2 Knit Picks Options needles, which are metal and have sharp points.
Good luck with your scarf!

I almost liked that Knit Picks sweater, but it seems like where it ends with the triangles of seed stitch would accentuate the thighs… not a good look. The Anthropologie sweater looks a little nicer in the leg/triangle area. Maybe it’s because the focus on the Anthropologie sweater is on the pretty stitch details on the bust and the seed stitch triangles are the only eye catcher on the Knit Picks one.
Just an idea to keep in mind when you’re redesigning… (not that I’m trying to tell you what to do, obviously… it’s just something I noticed…)
Happy Blogiversary!

What Jen said–I keep checking and no new posts! I wish I were half the knitter you are–I envy your skills something rotten!

Just discovered your blog a few weeks ago and started in on the Mrs. Darcy. What an exquisite pattern! Am just finishing the sweater and eager for a fresh ramble. Hope all is well.
